The main advantage of a grinded surface is that it’s not slippery. So this kind of processing is often used when making stairs and floors in wet rooms. Grinding as a finishing stage of processing is often performed on stone with no peculiar pattern or color in order not to lose that magic magnificence which can be achieved on more interesting stones after polishing.
Grinding of natural stone allows returning the product an original appearance, having removed existing scratches, chips, attritions and other damages. More often grinding is performed for flooring made from marble, granite or other kinds of natural stone.
High quality grinding and restoration of stone allows removing superfine facial layer and providing a perfectly smooth surface. In each certain case the technology of work and used equipment will be chosen by a specialist individually according to particular qualities and state of the stone.
Grinding of marble supposes a consistent fulfillment of several crucial technological stages:
• Leveling grinding of marble. Rough processing of the surface just after installation of slabs or during restoration. By leveling they eliminate slab differences, process tile joints making them less noticeable and the surface itself more integral or almost all-cast structure;
• Restoration of stone surface. Chips, dents, deep scratches, point defects are removed from the stone surface. To do this, they use polyester glue the shade of which corresponds to the color of the material;
• Replacement and restoration of tile joints. Old material is removed from joints and they are filled again with new material the color and composition of which are chosen according to a specific case and designer’s wish;
• Grinding of stone. It’s performed immediately ahead of polishing. It allows removing scratches which appeared after leveling grinding.

Grinding of marble. Restoration of battered surfaces from marble is performed in several steps. Firstly a degree of damage is estimated. During the stone inspection they detect attritions, spots, cracks, chips and other defects. The procedure of grinding of marble surface is performed with the help of diamond disks. Avoiding damaging the stone structure they remove the top battered layer of facing. The thickness of removed layer is up to 4 mm.
Grinding of travertine. Because travertine is a porous and soft facing material its grinding requires special care and neatness. Restoration of the surface is carried out alike marble floor. But these procedures have to be performed much oftener – up to 3 times a year. For increasing the period of service of travertine is recommended to cover the stone with a special emulsion which create a stable and strong membrane that will protect the surface from damages.
Grinding of granite. Grinding, then klindex and polishing are executed interchangeably during the restoration process. At first stage they apply rough abrasives. Because of high solidity of the material it is more complicated to inflict a significant damage on it so cracks and defects of more than 2 mm depth appear much rarer on the granite surface. It is the same thickness of layer that is removed from stone when grinding.
Finishing the rooms with natural stone is getting more and more popular. Over time if the stone products are not looked after, they become pale, mechanical damages as attritions and scratches appear on them and make them not attractive. An optimal solution in such situation is a grinding of natural stone. It will let the stone be smooth and more solid.
